Cycles are the core resource on the CLOAD platform used to support file storage and operations. They determine the total file size you can upload and the duration for which files remain stored. Below are detailed explanations and management methods:

1. Role of Cycles

   • File Storage: Each file upload consumes a certain amount of Cycles to ensure the file is securely stored on the blockchain.

   • Storage Duration: Cycles directly affect the storage duration. Insufficient Cycles may result in files being cleared.

2. Checking Your Cycles Balance

   • Go to the Creation Center and check the remaining Cycles in the Cycles Balance card.

   • Progress Bar: When storage duration is less than 100 days, the progress bar shows the percentage of days remaining, helping you stay informed about resource status.

   • Daily Consumption Details: Below the progress bar, you can see the daily Cycles consumption for currently stored files, giving you a clear understanding of storage costs.

3. Recharging Cycles

   

   • Initial Gift: Each new user receives 0.5T Cycles upon registration, usable for storing initial files.

   • Recharge Method:

     • Click the Recharge button on the top-left of the Cycles balance card.

     • Use ICP from your account for the exchange, with prices consistent with the official ICP exchange rate.

     • After confirming the recharge, the Cycles balance updates instantly.

   • Important Notes:

     • Ensure your account has sufficient ICP to recharge.

     • If your Cycles balance is too low to cover storage costs, files may be cleared. Recharge promptly to avoid losses.

4. Cycles Fee Overview

   • Storage Cost: The storage cost for Cycles is very low, approximately $5 per 1GB per year, providing a cost-effective on-chain storage service.

   • Calculation Example:

     • Storing 1GB for one year consumes the equivalent of around $5 in Cycles.

   • Plan your usage based on your current Cycles balance and storage needs for efficient resource management.
